We’re Hiring a Programme Manager in Berlin!

European Alternatives Berlin is searching for a Programme Manager for a part-time position (30 hours/week) to work in our Berlin office. The monthly salary will be € 3.080 gross. The position starts in November 2025 and is initially limited to 1 year until October 2026. An extension is desired.

About European Alternatives & The School of Transnational Organizing

European Alternatives is a transnational non-profit organisation working closely with grassroots initiatives to imagine, demand, and enact democracy, equality, and culture beyond the nation-state.

European Alternatives Berlin is running the “School of Transnational Organizing,” a grassroots school where everyday people, social movement builders, trade union organizers, migrant workers, climate justice activists, community artists as well as marginalized communities meet to learn the tools and skills to master the lost art of organizing solidarity and together shape the landscape of what we think is possible. With a wide community of trainers, facilitators, and educators, we inspire, train, and support new popular pioneers, organizations, and movements to spread political hope, courage, and joy in their countries, cities, and communities.

Who we search for

Your Profile

  • Deep interest in migrant rights, workers’ rights, climate justice, transnational community organizing and popular education;
  • Commitment to participating in a horizontal workplace (including collective decision processes, peer-supervision and cross-functional collaboration);
  • Proven experience in project writing and conceptualisation, ideally in the NGO or non-profit sector (national and EU level);
  • Experience with EU funding instruments and/or major international donors;
  • Experience in drafting and working with project budgets; Experience in project design and management;
  • Strong analytical and organisational skills, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a small, multicultural team.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and effectively communicate the organisation's mission, values and fundraising needs;
  • Professional fluency in English (C1) and preference for German (C1), with excellent oral and written proficiency in both languages, other languages are an asset;
  • Willingness to travel (Europe).

Your Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Programme Design & Fundraising
    • Identify funding opportunities from EU programmes, foundations, and institutional donors.
    • Conceptualise and draft high-quality project proposals in line with organisational strategy and donor priorities.
    • Conduct background research and needs assessments to strengthen project design.
    • Support the development and monitoring of budgets.
  • Project Management
    • Actively participate in design, implementation and evaluation of projects in the field of transnational organizing, popular education, workers’ rights and migrant justice.
    • Actively support the implementation of larger transnational events (event-management, logistics, facilitation, partner relations);
  • Governance
    • We are a horizontal team and ask you to become an active member of our internal team culture and governance processes.

What we expect

Essential Requirements

  • A minimum of three years of professional experience;
  • Good communication and relationship-building skills; Knowledge of grant management, national and EU level;
  • Ability to balance priorities and manage tasks independently;
  • Ability and willingness to work as a member of a team with people of different backgrounds; Impartiality, fairness, and the ability to respect confidentiality;

Desirable Skills 

  • Experience in activist or community organizing contexts; background in migrant, labour, and/or environmental justice movements a plus;
  • Active involvement in movement networks, experience in moderation, event organisation, transnational alliance building;
  • Proficiency in other languages.

What we offer

  • At 30 hours per week: € 3,080 gross monthly salary;
  • Benefits: Public transport ticket and € 600 training budget per year;
  • 30 days of annual holidays plus 5 days of educational leave; As specified in our Organisational Works Agreement (OWA), overtime can be compensated as additional paid leave;

  • Flexible remote work with 3 in-office (Berlin) days required per week;
  • Frequent participation in local and transnational activist and community organizing gatherings, workshops, and conferences;
