Assembly, Film screening and Panel Discussion "La Révolte des Femmes de Chambre" (The Uprising of the Hotel Maids)

Friday, 15th of November 2024 at the Regenbogenfabrik, Berlin (2nd floor), Lausitzer Straße 21a

As part of the Translocal Winter Academy 2024, a unique gathering of activists for housing, migrant rights, and care work from across Europe, we invite you to an inspiring evening at Regenbogenfabrik’s Kino. We’ll be screening "La Révolte des Femmes de Chambre" (The Uprising of the Hotel Maids), a powerful film that captures the courageous voices of women migrant workers organizing for better labor rights, shining a light on both the obstacles and inspiring triumphs of their movement in France.

For 22 months, the maids of the Ibis les Batignolles Hotel in Paris fought tirelessly to bring attention to their mistreatment and appalling working conditions. These “invisible” workers courageously took on the hotel giant Accor, demanding respect, fair treatment, and dignity. Emerging victorious after one of the longest strikes in French social history, their story has since become a symbol of resistance and resilience within labor rights movements.

Following the film, stay with us for an engaging panel discussion featuring labor organizers and migrant rights advocates from Berlin, who will share insights and explore the critical connections between local and transnational labor struggles.

REGISTER NOW!

Doors open at 19:00 and the screening starts at 19:30. The location is unfortunately not wheelchair accessible. On-site childcare is available upon prior registration. The film is in French with English subtitles.
